Ben Bernstein's Story
Hi my name is Ben Bernstein and my struggle with food allergies began early in my life when I was only 14 months old. Ever since that day, I have lived in constant fear of coming in contact with my allergens, nuts. Whenever I noticed anyone eating nuts, I would watch their every move for fear of touching the same thing that person touched. You might think this sounds neurotic but these allergies are more dangerous than most may understand and in some cases can lead to anaphylaxis shock and death.
In the Spring of last year, my mother heard about a clinical trial being conducted at Stanford University, and met with Dr. Kari Nadeau. Luckily for me, I was accepted into the trial and my life has changed dramatically ever since my first visit. Words cannot describe how much better I feel now that I now I will eventually be cured of these allergens. Most people don’t realize that I couldn’t go to other kids birthday parties or restaurants my entire life for fear that if I ate food that came in contact with something that I was allergic too I would have a reaction or worse. It was so bad in fact that I have been hospitalized three times in the past two years. The thought of living allergy free is like a dream come true and will change the quality of my life considerably. Please help me make this a reality for the other six million children in the United States that suffer from food allergies by supporting this fundraiser.
